The 29th Annual Par Three Championship Hosted by Blue Rock Golf Course

Saturday, November 7, 2009
Blue Rock Golf Tournement
On Saturday, November 7th and Sunday, November 8th one hundred six golfers from all over New England were able to tee it up for two glorious Cape Cod fall days. After talking to some of the players I don’t think there was a golfer left in the town of Whitinsville for forty were in their party! Pat Fannon, PGA teaching professional, and his staff run this fun tournament which awards thirty-six prizes, plus closest to the pin holes both days and an optional skins pool. Being held at this time of year the tournament also gives a big boost to the Cape’s economy. So, thank you, Blue Rock.

The format is the better ball of two players with gross and net prizes. For handicaps the golfers use ½ of their lowest club handicap, with odd numbers rounded to the next highest.

On Saturday there was a short frost delay. However, the day progressed into much sunshine and clear skies. Then Sunday was nothing but the very best of Indian summer weather. As I toured the course taking snapshots all the players just marveled about the tournament, the course, the weather, and Cape Cod. One of the female players remarked about a few of the for sale signs for houses near the course, and that she might be interested in a Cape Cod home. Smiles were everywhere, even when one needed to apply the leaf rule. Tree line to tree line of the hole you are playing, a ball lost under the leaves may be dropped without penalty, as close to the spot the ball was lost if the entire foursome agrees the ball is definitely lost. Late fall adjustments to the game of golf!

Golf Club of Cape Cod to Enjoy Secure Future

Wendesday, October 14, 2009
New Falmouth Golf, LLC has announced that it has raised $4.3 million of equity capital partnering with 22 members of the Golf Club of Cape Cod in Falmouth, Mass., thus securing the future of the club.

"All of the investors in this financing recognize the quality of the club and the unique opportunity afforded to those that participated in this restructuring," says Kevin Delbridge, one of the club's new member-partners. "The investors and the club worked in a collaborative fashion, seizing the opportunity to put in place not only an ownership structure that includes a subset of the members, but also a governance structure that includes those members."

The member-partners will form an advisory board that will participate in the governance of the club with the LLC, led by Martin Shaevel. "Our alliance with new member-partners offers our members solid representation in guiding the future of the club," wrote Shaevel in a letter to club members.

"Through the individual character and resolve of many of your fellow members, we are a much stronger and more competitive golf club on solid turf."

As part of the equity offering, Boston Private Bank, a subsidiary of Boston Private Financial Holdings, Inc. and principal lender to the LLC, worked with the club to place it on a firm financial footing for the future. "Boston Private was highly responsive to our circumstances and has shown great faith in the quality of the Club, its members and our continued success," said Shaevel.

Opened in June 2007, the Golf Club of Cape Cod is recognized as among one of the Northeast's best new private golf venues by various golf publications. But it has experienced the challenges of a less-than-favorable economy, requiring its owners to be innovative marketers in the highly competitive New England golf market.

To promote membership sales, the club offered a multi-season recallable, "dues only" opportunity to qualified individuals, requiring participants to commit to the club at the end of the term. "The affiliate membership garnered great interest by prospective members" says Charles T. Passios, Chief Operating Officer of New Falmouth LLC. "The 'dues-only' offer is limited, and we expect that once participants have experienced this Rees Jones' masterpiece, the amenities of our new clubhouse and the camaraderie of members, they'll want to be a part of the region's best golf club experience."

For more information, contact Passios via email at ctp@tgccc.com or by telephone, 508-457-7200 ext. 101. The club's web address is: www.tgccc.com.

Helicopter Golf Ball Drop

Sunday, September 13, 2009
At Holly Ridge Golf Course in Sandwich a unique charity event took place on the driving range. The charity, Audible Local Ledger, Inc., is a radio reading service for the blind and neurologically impaired. The event, “Goofy Golf Ball Drop”, was well attended. While waiting for the helicopter arrival Jean Enright and Delayne Pascal entertained the audience with a humorous mini basic golf lesson. (By the way these two LPGA Class A Professionals give outstanding lessons so check out their link to this website.) Suddenly the bright red copter appeared and gracefully landed while volunteers ran out with buckets of number golf balls. With the thousand balls aboard the helicopter rose in the air, stationed it itself over the green, and the balls were tossed. With precise measurement the three money winning golf balls were found closest to the pin without going in the hole ( No, there was no hole-in-one that day!) Needless to say, not one of my five golf balls was a winner, although I did find one of mine on the fringe!

GustBuster's Steve Asman To Be Featured LIVE on The Weather Channel Thurs., Sept. 17th at 7 pm

September 16, 2009
Farmingdale, NY - GustBuster®, the World's Smartest Umbrella, is ALWAYS relevant and ALWAYS newsworthy. GustBuster's unique wind-release technology and superior craftsmanship have been making headlines for years, and guess what...they're about to do it again!

Steve Asman, the President of GustBuster Umbrellas, is scheduled to appear LIVE via SKYPE on The Weather Channel on Thursday, September 17th at approximately 7:10 pm (Eastern Time) to discuss the design and technology behind his invention, the GustBuster Umbrella with Weather Center hosts Jim Cantore and Alexandra Steele, and demonstrate why it's the ONLY Umbrella in the World that can stand up to gale force winds and rain without turning inside out or breaking.

How is it that a product that has been around for over 10 years is featured again and again on shows like The Weather Channel, CNN, and Good Morning America? It's because NO ONE has been able to make a better umbrella...that's why! Everyone wants to talk to the man behind (or underneath) the World's Smartest Umbrella...GustBuster!

GustBuster's patented wind-release vents and flow-through design can withstand winds of more than 55 M.P.H. making it the ultimate wind umbrella. It's the only UN-Flippable, UN-Flappable, UN-Leakable umbrella in the world. The joints and ferrule of the GustBuster are constructed of Ultra High-Density Poly-Carbonate, and won't break or turn inside-out. The GustBuster umbrella uses nylon that is a strong 190 thread per inch blend that won't tear, which is why it's backed by the manufacturer with a lifetime repair or replacement warranty. GustBuster has revolutionized the way we look at and design umbrellas. It's the World's Smartest Umbrella™ because of its superior technology.

Bridgestone Golf Challenge Ball Fitting at The Captains Golf Course

June 6, 2009 - By Jan Martin
Using the same equipment as the PGA uses to test golf balls, I watched Peter Reid, Bridgestone Ball Fitter, work with Mike Dickens, a Captains Golf Course member. Based on Mike’s age, average score, golf rounds played per year, what Mike looks for in a golf ball and approximately twelve swings with a driver, half with Mike’s present choice of ball, and half with the Bridgestone brand Peter suggested. The two laser fired cameras record the launch angle and spin of the ball capturing the ball leaving the clubface up to 150 miles an hour, and the computer records the distance and loft of each drive and shows a draw or fade. With the computer read out and a sleeve of #E6 Bridgestone golf balls Mike hopes to expect more distance with his drives.

A Cape Cod Future All Star

Andrew Flynn - Cape Cod's Future All StarRemember this name – Andrew Flynn. Right now he is a most likeable eleven year old about to enter sixth grade at Nauset Middle School. He has been holding a golf club ever since he could walk, has had his golf lessons from his dad who is a greens keeper at The Captains, and came in first place in the Junior Cape Cod Golf League for eleven and twelve year olds held this July at Dennis Pines, Olde Barnstable Fairgrounds, Falmouth Country Club, and Bayberry Hills.

Andrew also skis, plays soccer, basketball, baseball, and tennis, but his favorite sport is golf. Why? He gets to meet new people, it gets him out of the house away from video games, and he feels it’s a great opportunity for a college scholarship, he is already thinking Arizona State University.

Asked if he practices, he stated, “Right after this interview I will be chipping and putting.” Andrew is very self- disciplined. He talked about how he and his family watch all the big PGA Tournaments together. Tiger Woods is his favorite golfer, but he was rooting for Tom Watson in the British Open.

In the beginning of August Andrew is heading for Pinehurst. This is the second year he has entered the World Juniors Tournament. Perhaps the flop shot lesson he got from Jason Caron will come in handy.

Andrew’s handshake says it all. Whatever he decides to do, he will do it well. And if it should be golf, he will be the one giving out the autographs.
