Page 6: Family Tee By Tee MartinTee Martin

Attention golfers between the ages of 25 and 45. Imagine if you could tee it up and spend time with your family. All the while you’re having fun competition where everyone feels they are competing on the same level, and eliminate the frustrations that turn beginners away from the game.

Hopefully you can have all this and more if your local golf courses provide a family course layout.

In today society, we are very busy in trying to make ends meet. We work so much that any free time should be spent with the family. I know this because I have a family, existent with a wife and four children. Golf is far from my mind because I work very hard, and when I do have time, it is spent with my #1 priority, my family.

In September I was speaking with a manager of a golf course in New England about this very subject. He mentioned he wanted to try this new idea and implement for the 2005 season. I told him that I thought it was a great idea. Set up the course like you always do but have two or three additional tees forward of the traditional red tees. Give the beginner a chance to see the green and have a shorter distance to hit the golf ball.

Most beginners, especially juniors, get frustrated because they can't hit the ball as far and they take too many strokes to reach the green. Also, some beginners play from the wrong set of tees because they only have two from which to choose. This tends to become a nuisance because they frequently slow down the pace of play. This concern is reduced or eliminated with the use of more forward tees.

A family course lay out will create a winning situation for both course owners and golfers. With more tee boxes, both the avid golfer and the beginner can enjoy the course at the same time. A faster pace of play means more golfers, and happy ones at that. Also, with families playing you will get more revenues from food and beverage and pro shop merchandise, especially those families visiting from a far.

Society has changed and we must adapt to these changes. Let's recognize the need to make the golf courses a place that accommodates the needs of individuals and families. Families want activities in which the entire family can take part, and experienced golfers want to make sure new golfers do not delay their golf games.

I hope to tee it up soon with my family because I miss playing GOLF!!
